Kindergarten Classroom Assignments
Dear Caregivers,
This year at Inglewood Elementary School, we plan on placing kindergarten students into classes after the first week of school.
We want to take the first couple of days to get to know your students and assess them. We feel this process will allow us to place your student in a classroom environment that will best meet their individual needs.
During these days, students will learn procedures and routines, have morning meetings, participate in read alouds, complete crafts, and explore manipulative and supplies. School personnel will pull students to assess them on motor skills, classroom readiness, ELA, and math. Motor skills include holding a pencil, drawing a line, drawing a circle, and cutting.
For classroom readiness, we assess skills like following directions, asking for help, and taking turns. ELA looks at letter names, letter sounds, expressive and receptive language, and book handling skills. The math skills we assess are numbers, shapes, and counting objects.
To have a homebase, students will be placed in a class each day the first week. This is temporary and may change from day to day.
Placement Letter Will Be Sent August 9
On Friday August 9th, a final placement letter will be sent home. This will have the name of your child’s teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.
We still encourage you to come to meet the teacher night on July 31. You can show your child both kindergarten classes. If your family chooses to bring in school supplies on this night, we ask you keep them in a grocery bag labeled with your child’s name. This way we can place them in the correct classroom once students are placed. The other option would be to bring in school supplies on August 12th, the first full day in their permanent classroom.
Thank you from the kindergarten team! Please reach out with any questions!
