Absences
Protocols for Missing School
While routine attendance is essential for student learning and growth, we understand that absences are sometimes unavoidable. Please follow the protocols listed below and ensure the school has your correct contact information throughout the year to create as little disruption as possible to your student's education.
Planning
When planning doctor’s visits, family trips or other predetermined absences, please refer to the school calendar and choose days when students are out of school to minimize absences.
Communication
If your child has to be absent from school, please do one of the following as soon as possible:
- Let the school know when your child will be out and why.
- Send in notes to the front office or use our online form.
- Send a Remind message or e-mail to your child’s teacher.
- Call the school and talk to the school secretary.
Parents/guardians will receive a Possip check-in text when students have missed more than 3 days within a quarter. When students reach five unexcused absences, the school must send out a Truancy Letter. Please sign and return the letter to the front office as soon as possible.
Monitoring
After seven absences (unexcused and/or excused), the parents/guardians and School Attendance Team must create a plan to improve school attendance. Follow-ups will be scheduled after 2 weeks, 30 days and 60 days.
Parents can check on their child’s attendance through the Campus Parent Portal.
